Abstract

Digital transformation has altered the patterns of information production, distribution, and consumption, while simultaneously influencing social and political dynamics in Indonesia. These developments have expanded public participation but also introduced challenges such as misinformation, disinformation, polarization, and declining trust in public information. This study aims to analyze the roles of academics and the media in strengthening public information governance and Indonesia’s geo-socio-political landscape in the digital era, as well as to identify forms of collaboration with the government and the public. The study employs a qualitative descriptive approach through a literature review. Data were gathered from scholarly journal articles, academic books, government documents, official statistics, regulations, and credible media publications relevant to digital democracy, evidence-based policy, information literacy, media, and governance. The data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis and validated through source triangulation. The findings indicate that academics play a strategic role as producers and validators of knowledge and as translators of scientific knowledge into policy recommendations, while the media plays a role in the verification, distribution, and dissemination of information, as well as in public education and oversight. The government functions as both a regulator and a facilitator of the knowledge and innovation ecosystem, whereas the public acts as both information users and social watchdogs. Collaboration among these four actors is essential to strengthen information credibility, mitigate disinformation and polarization, enhance public trust, and support the quality of digital democracy. This study underscores the importance of a public information ecosystem that is evidence-based, transparent, accountable, and collaborative.
